Dr. S. Ebow Coleman, Ph.D., P.E.

Dr. S. Ebow Coleman, Ph.D., P.E. is the Founder, President & CEO of C3S, Inc. (formerly S. E. Coleman & Associates, Inc.), a concrete consulting engineer firm in Houston, Texas. With over 30 years of experience in the concrete and construction materials industry, Dr. Coleman’s has extensive experience in condition assessments and forensic evaluation of damaged structures. He has completed over 5,000 petrographic and chemical analyses, and condition surveys.

Dr. Coleman often performs due diligence for property managers and owners on various projects and also offers expert witness testimony on construction litigation cases. Representative projects span the whole spectrum of concrete materials in varying structures; mortar, grout, aggregate, and concrete in buildings – residential, commercial, industrial, and public infrastructure.

His specialization in forensic evaluations of concrete has been invaluable in resolving problems involving ready-mix concrete plants, facility maintenance, airport runways, highway pavements, commercial buildings, industrial structures, and educational facilities.

Dr. Coleman serves as a Consultant on the Sam Houston Ship Channel Bridge Program in Harris County, Texas. The current bridge is being replaced with wider twin spans. The project is expected to take over six years to complete. It is the biggest infrastructure project in Harris County.

From 1982 to 1985, Dr. Coleman was a Senior Research Engineer with Dowell-Schlumberger in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he spearheaded the use of Type C fly ash in oil well cements. He wrote several research papers on his work and was a co-author of two US patents from the fly ash project.

From 1986 to 1988, Dr. Coleman worked for Law Engineering in Houston as Project Engineer. He worked on several projects including testing of materials and materials investigation.

From 1989 to 1991, Dr. Coleman worked for Southwestern Laboratories in Houston where he developed the petrographic analysis service for the company which served all 17 satellite offices in Texas.

Before founding S.E. Coleman & Associates, Inc., Coleman received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Ghana and his Master of Science degree in Cement Production Technology from the Institute of Chemical Technology, Prague, Czech Republic in 1972 and 1977 respectfully. He also earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Concrete Specialization from Purdue University in 1981 and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston in 2000.

Dr. Coleman was awarded an honorary doctorate degree by his alma mater, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology in Kumasi, Ghana 2005 and is a recipient of 2009 Civil Engineering Alumni Achievement Award from School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University.

He has served on the Advisory Boards for Lyles School of Civil Engineering, Purdue University from 2007 to 2013, the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Prairie View A & M University from 1998 to 2005.
